What is Myofascial Release

  • Fascia is a mobile, fluid tissue. It is beyond connective tissue: it composes every aspect of our bodies. It’s like the honeycomb of a wild beehive, containing all the life of the bees inside. Fascia is our container, and it’s in every part of us, even our cells. It unifies our bodies from within.

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a type of therapy that can mobilize painful fascial tissue restrictions and make your body a place you want to be! There are many styles of MFR. The most comprehensive version of MFR is the Barnes approach. John Barnes trains therapists to feel tissue physically but also engage with patients during body work by exploring their thoughts and feelings about their pain and healing.

Each body has its own unique history of restrictions and tissue memories. By providing personalized, hands-on treatment, the memories within a patient’s fascial tissue can be explored and released; along with their fascial restrictions. MFR facilitates decreased pain and improved health and function.
